The world of cycling runs at breakneck speed, and already, on the threshold of a new season, we have been bequeathed some fascinating stories. Certainly remembered among them will be the farewell to the cycling world of Joaquim “Purito” Rodriguez, a formidable member of the Katusha team who we had the honour of working with on many of his cycling adventures. Born in 1979, the Spanish climbing specialist has over 50 professional victories to his name. He has also topped the UCI World Tour rankings three times (2010, 2012, 2013). In 2015, he rose again to a fantastic second place in the final general classification of the Vuelta.
His nickname “Purito”, or “little cigar”, recalls an incident in 2001 when, during a training ride, he made an “I’m-smoking-a-cigar” gesture to highlight the ease with which he was finding the climb.
For his last season, Selle Italia decided to present Rodriguez with a custom saddle, a unique remodelling of the Slr Team Edition. To honour one of the brightest ambassadors for our brand, we depicted a little cigar on his saddle, the “purito” that distinguished him from the very beginnings of his splendid career. The creative result combines the style and performance of our products with a desire to celebrate an undisputed star of the international circuit of recent years.
Good luck “Purito”! Thank you for all the thrills that only a true champion like you could have given us.
See you soon.
